Jérôme Caroli Releases Combine, a New Alpine Film Merging Skiing and Mountain Biking in Verbier

Professional athlete Jérôme Caroli unveils Combine, a new alpine film project exploring the shared language between skiing and mountain biking. Shot high in the mountains of Val de Bagnes and the Verbier region, the film challenges traditional boundaries between disciplines, focusing on line choice, speed, intuition, and patience in steep, exposed terrain.

Originally from Val de Bagnes and now based in Verbier, Jérôme Caroli is a professional athlete whose background spans downhill mountain biking, alpine skiing, and high-mountain terrain. After fourteen years of international competition, he now focuses on freeride and film projects that explore movement, intuition, and creativity in the mountains.

Best known for his fourteen-year career in downhill mountain biking, including multiple appearances on the UCI World Cup circuit, Caroli has long used skiing as a parallel discipline to reset and reconnect with the mountains. With Combine, he steps away from competition to pursue a more personal vision, bringing both sports together within the same demanding alpine environment.

The film follows Caroli as he skis steep ice slopes reaching elevations of up to 4,000 metres and rides technical alpine bike lines as high as 3,600 metres. Rather than emphasising tricks or results, Combine highlights the deeper similarities between skiing and biking: carving turns, committing fully to a line, reading terrain, and trusting instinct when margins are slim.

Production was temporarily halted in early 2023 after Caroli suffered a serious leg injury. Following a year of rehabilitation, filming resumed, adding an unplanned layer of resilience, patience, and perspective to the project.

“Coming back after an injury and being able to express myself the way I originally imagined made the achievement even more rewarding,” Caroli explains.
