Innovative drone technologies optimize operational processes in the Planai ski resort

The Planai-Hochwurzen cable cars are taking another step towards the digitalization and sustainable development of their infrastructure. As part of an innovation project, drone-based methods for inspecting and optimizing operational processes are being tested in collaboration with the Austrian technology company KIONIQ.

The aim is to use modern drone and sensor technology to make the ski slope and cable car infrastructure, as well as operational procedures, safer, more efficient, and more data-driven. Automated drones equipped with high-resolution optical and thermal sensor systems will be used for this purpose.

“Future-oriented technologies offer great potential to further strengthen the operational reliability and sustainability of our infrastructure,” explains Peter Weichbold, Managing Director of Planai-Hochwurzen-Bahnen. “The collaboration with KIONIQ enables us to test new digital tools in a practical setting and to further develop them specifically for ski resort operations.”

The video explains how this technology is used in practice and what advantages it offers.
