Brian Head Resort Launches New Uphill Access Policy
04/February/2026
Uphill travel is now open at Brian Head Resort for the season on designated routes during non-operational hours. The resort piloted uphill access last winter and is officially rolling out the policy this year, with dedicated routes, free online registration, and guidelines to support safety and ski area operations.
“We’re thrilled to expand recreation opportunities that promote responsible use of public lands,” said Amber Palmer, marketing manager at Brian Head Resort. “After piloting uphill access last year, we’re confident we can expand it in a way that advances our Freedom to Ski mission while prioritizing safety and supporting our ski area operations.”
The uphill route follows the Wildflower Lift line on designated trails to the top of the lift, with return via Ute, Moonboggle, or Kodachrome trails. There is no exit from the ski area at the top of the Wildflower Lift due to U.S. Forest Service permit boundaries, so users must descend via designated routes. Uphill users should understand that travel is at their own risk and that ski patrol is not available outside operating hours.
Requirements:
Travel only during non-operational hours (after lifts close and before they reopen).
Register online for a free Uphill Access Pass, sign the waiver, and carry your pass.
Use designated routes only; ascend on skis or splitboards (no snowshoes).
Strongly recommended:
Travel with a partner.
Stay to the side while ascending and yield to resort vehicles and equipment.
Wear reflective/fluorescent clothing and use a headlamp for after-hours travel.
The complete policy and updated trail status are available at brianhead.com/uphill-policy.
Brian Head Resort is open daily through May 10, 2026, weather permitting. Lifts run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends and peak days.
Established in 1964, Brian Head Resort offers access to 650 acres of lift-served trails with an average annual snowfall of nearly 360 inches of Utah powder. Brian Head Resort is located approximately three hours from Las Vegas and about four hours from Salt Lake City. The resort features a ski and snowboard school, terrain parks, and tubing. In 2023 Brian Head Resort announced a collaboration with Aspen Meadows that will add 850 skiable acres and seven chairlifts, along with new hiking and mountain biking trails. Brian Head Resort is tucked away in one of the world’s most scenic environments, surrounded by famed national parks, monuments, and recreation areas.
