FIS and FISU strengthen partnership with new collaboration agreement

The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) and the International University Sports Federation (FISU) have signed a new collaboration agreement on 17 August, formalizing a long-standing partnership and outlining a clear framework for future cooperation in snow sports.

This joint commitment marks an important step in aligning the university sports pathway with the wider international snow sports system.

Under this new framework, both organizations will continue to work closely to support high-quality competitions at the FISU Universiades to ensure that these events follow FIS rules and standards. This will help to create meaningful opportunities for student-athletes to progress within these specific sport disciplines.

The agreement equally reflects the shared responsibility the organizations have to athlete development, education, integrity, sustainability, and innovation – values that are central to both FIS and FISU.

“As we approach the Winter Universiade in Changchun in January 2027, strengthening our long-standing partnership with FIS is a positive and important step forward. Our shared focus on innovation and continuous improvement will help ensure our events are delivered with excellence while enhancing the overall experience for student-athletes” said Matthias Remund, FISU Secretary General & CEO.

Interim FIS Secretary General, Urs Lehmann, welcomed this strengthened partnership, saying: “This agreement builds on an already successful collaboration. We’re looking forward to working together to create new opportunities for student-athletes and sport competitions delivered to the highest standards. University sport plays a vital role in the global snow sports pathway, and this partnership gives us a strong platform for the future."

This step provides a solid foundation on which to build, guaranteeing that student-athletes benefit from safe, fair, and professionally delivered competitions while also being supported in their education and personal development.
