Silvertip Gondola Project: Notice of Engagement issued

The Government of Alberta, through the All-Season Resorts Branch, is considering whether lands associated with the Silvertip Gondola proposal should be designated as an all-season resort area under the All-Season Resorts Act (ASRA).

To gather input on the proposed land use designations, the Government of Alberta is undertaking public engagement and Indigenous consultation.

As a part of the Silvertip Resort Village located in Canmore, Alberta, Stone Creek Resorts has proposed the development of a gondola and associated visitor amenities. The proposal includes a transit hub, gondola, day lodge, trail networks, viewing platforms, a suspension bridge, and related utility infrastructure.

Stone Creek Resorts is undertaking public engagement and Indigenous consultation to share information and gather input on their Silvertip Gondola proposal.

The Silvertip Gondola proposal is being considered through the following key areas of review:

Environmental Assessment

With a focus on corridor function, cumulative effects and key indicator species, including wildlife and habitat baseline studies.

Public Engagement

Public feedback gathered through earlier engagement and the current process will be reviewed relative to the decision on the all-season resort designation.

Recreation Access

Mount Lady MacDonald is one of the most visited hiking peaks in the Bow Valley, and the gondola project builds on the area’s strong connection to existing recreation opportunities.

Process and Next Steps

Land designation is the first step in a multi-stage process. If lands are designated, the proposal would need to complete Indigenous consultation requirements and additional regulatory review before development could proceed.
