Bergisel Stadium, 1809 and SKY receive Austrian Ecolabel

The Bergisel operating company was awarded the Austrian Ecolabel at a ceremony in Vienna.

The recognized state seal of approval for sustainable business practices was awarded to three entities: the Bergisel Stadium as a conference and event venue, the Bergisel SKY restaurant in the ski jump tower, and the Restaurant 1809 at Bergisel as catering establishments. The state environmental seal was ceremoniously presented in the historic Marble Hall of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Climate Protection (BMLUK) in Vienna by Environment Minister Norbert Totschnig and State Secretary Elisabeth Zehetner.

“ With the Austrian Ecolabel, we promote environmental and climate protection. These activities have an impact and stimulate further projects. Such initiatives are key to a responsible society and the preservation of our planet,” emphasized Federal Minister Norbert Totschnig at the handover ceremony.

For Bergisel Betriebsgesellschaft, the certification is the official confirmation of a journey spanning many years. To obtain this rigorous seal of approval, comprehensive measures were implemented: from prioritizing regional tradespeople and suppliers and increasing the use of organic and fair-trade products in the restaurant to consistently separating waste. Furthermore, energy and water consumption were significantly reduced through the conversion to LED lighting and the use of resource-saving fixtures. The use of environmentally harmful chemicals in cleaning is completely avoided.

Bernhard Niggler, Managing Director of Bergisel Betriebsgesellschaft , sees the success in the collaborative approach: “We as the Bergisel team and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Austrian Ski Federation are tackling all these issues together and invite our guests to support us in this endeavor. Through transparent communication and the annual training of our employees, we are gradually achieving greater sustainability.”

The venue's specially created environmental slogan aptly summarizes this vision: "Here, the world doesn't just jump, here, the world meets in an environmentally conscious way."
