Peter Barandun Elected As New President Of Swiss-Ski

Peter Barandun was elected to head Swiss-Ski at an extraordinary delegate meeting in Aarau. After 14 months as co-president, the Graubünden native will now head the umbrella organization for Swiss snow sports as sole president.

Peter Barandun has been a member of the Swiss-Ski Executive Board since 2012 – initially as Vice President for twelve years, most recently as Co-President since the end of June 2024. At the extraordinary Swiss-Ski Delegates' Meeting in Aarau, which was held following Urs Lehmann's resignation as Co-President, the representatives of the regional associations and ski clubs elected him to lead the association with 100% of the vote (and thus no dissenting votes or abstentions). At the end of August, the Swiss-Ski Executive Board had already unanimously agreed that Peter Barandun should lead the association as sole President. There was no opposing candidate.

"I am delighted by the immense trust placed in me by the ski clubs, the regional associations, and within Swiss-Ski," says Peter Barandun. "Together, we have elevated Swiss snow sports to a top level in recent years, both athletically and economically. We now need to continue on this successful path while remaining open to necessary, profitable developments." Professionally, Peter Barandun serves as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Electrolux Switzerland. He will continue to fully perform this role with the support of his experienced management team.

Stefan Binggeli elected Vice President

Stefan Binggeli was elected in Aarau as an additional vice president to replace the resigned co-president Urs Lehmann – also with 100% of the vote. As a result of this election by the delegates, Binggeli will resign from his position as president of Schneesport Mittelland-Nordwestschweiz (SSM) and from the SSM board. Interregion Mitte, which the Bernese has represented on the Swiss Ski Executive Board since 2019, will reorganize its representation on the umbrella organization's top management body.

The change from two co-presidents (Urs Lehmann and Peter Barandun) and one vice-president (Tamara Wolf) and one vice-president (Claude-Alain Schmidhalter) to one president, one vice-president, and two vice-presidents does not change the long-ago path of broader distribution of leadership responsibility. "The election of Tamara Wolf as vice-president of the Swiss 2038 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Association and that of Claude-Alain Schmidhalter as president of the organizing committee for the 2027 Alpine World Ski Championships in Crans-Montana are exemplary examples of the transfer of Urs Lehmann's responsibilities to multiple individuals," said Peter Barandun.

Following the Extraordinary Delegates' Meeting in Aarau, the Swiss-Ski Executive Board for the remaining term of office until summer 2028 is composed as follows: Peter Barandun (President), Claude-Alain Schmidhalter (Vice-President), Tamara Wolf (Vice-President), Stefan Binggeli (Vice-President), Raphaëlle Favre Schnyder (Representative of Interregion West), and Jörg Abderhalden (Representative of Interregion East). The position of representative of Interregion Central is currently vacant.

The next regular Swiss-Ski Delegates' Meeting will take place on July 4, 2026, in Schangnau. Urs Lehmann, who was unable to attend on Wednesday, will also be honored at that time.
