Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn Updates- Mattertal Tunnel Project Between Tasch And Zermatt

The next generation project at MGBahn: The Mattertal Tunnel - the fast and safe connection between Täsch and Zermatt.

• Planned start of construction: 2028
• Planned completion: 2035
• Cost estimate: approx. CHF 460 million (financed via the federal government’s STEP AS 2035)

Background:

• The train route between Täsch and Zermatt is an important connection for the region.
• Due to its exposed location in relation to weather events, the section is sensitive.
• The route is regularly interrupted due to natural forces.
• In order to create a safe and year-round public transport connection and to expand the service in line with timetables, a tunnel is planned.
• The Mattertal Tunnel is part of the federal government's STEP Expansion Step 2035 project and is fully financed by the Federal Office of Transport.
